10 Wrestlers Who Are Real-Life Heroes
1. Shad Gaspard
Twice in his life, Shad Gaspard has proven a himself a hero in the eyes of fans. Once showing he's tough as nails, and a second time, showing he'll give up everything to put a life before his own.
In December 2016, Shad thwarted an attempted robbery of a gas station. He managed to wrestle a gun from the would-be robber and keep him restrained until the authorities arrived.
Then, on 17 May 2020, Shad was enjoy time at Venice Beach with his family when he and his son Aryeh were swept out to sea by a strong riptide. Gaspard was able to keep his son afloat until first responders arrived. Only one of them could be rescued at the time, and Shad urged the crew to take his son to safety first. When they were able to return to pick up Shad, he was nowhere to be found.
Coastguards and fellow wrestlers including JTG and John Morrison scoured the beach and sea for two days before the search was suspended. He was sadly found dead, washed up on the beach on 20 May at age 39.
A tragic end to who was, by accounts from his peers, one of the kindest men in the wrestling business. Shad Gaspard gave his life so that his son could live, and for that we'll always be grateful for his selflessness.
