10 Wrestlers Who Are The Most Overrated At Precisely One Thing
3. Edge: Promos
Edge is a very good promo who, over the course of a legendary career, has built deep interest in his most iconic matches. He is remembered as fondly as he is because he was the complete package.
His delivery is tremendous, often very funny, and he generally cuts a major league presence. As a heel - when he isn't wrapped up in bobbins supernatural pretentious nonsense that thinks it is cleverer than it is - he has that evil glint in his eyes, and while it's exaggerated, his hammy approach to the role works very well in the context of WWE's broad theatre.
Since he returned, however, it's as if he's trying too hard.
Playing a babyface, predominately, he has weighed himself down to the depths of near-embarrassment with material that is very, very heavy. What should have been welcome, necessary respite from the wacky low-stakes drivel that Vince McMahon pumped out more often than not was actually the opposite end of that extreme.
Edge's bulging forehead vein and spittle-frothed delivery is almost a parody of intensity, and at times, he seems to audition for a role in film with his Kubrick stare - and, again, the lighting and the staging ruthlessly undermine the notion that his spiels are authentic things meant to be taken very, very seriously.
He was far better as the ultra-cocky, uncaring bastard.
