Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder's WWE escape plan means their next home mightn't even be within Vince McMahon's restrictive Sports Entertainment universe, though All Elite Wrestling's emergence means their current employers probably won't let them go before their contracts expire in 2020. That doesn't make their need for a change of scenery any less pressing, though.

Shifting from Raw to SmackDown would bring the hope of better prospects, even if it's only to fill the 14 months before The Revival will likely walk out the door next April. The blue brand's is a sharper, simpler tag division, where performers are allowed to prosper on the strength of their ring work. Programmes rarely follow the typical WWE pantomime blueprint. Acts like The New Day don't scrimp on silliness, but SmackDown's formula of handing the tag teams 10-15 minutes bell time and no instructions beyond "have the best possible match" is an effective one, and a model The Revival should thrive in.

Fresh match-ups with The Bar, Usos, and New Day await should Dash and Dawson make the jump, and the renewed focus gained by jumping ship might even convince them to stay

Might.
