10 Wrestlers Who Broke Kayfabe In Unusual Ways
6. Jim Duggan & The Iron Sheik Get Caught In The Car
WWE became so acceptant of wrestlers crossing the heel/babyface divide on their car rides between towns that they eventually monetised the very grind the wrestlers are forced to endure.
In 2016, the WWE Network strapped up some rental cars with cameras and launched Ride Along, the show that attempted to trivialise the the self-funded travel from town to town on the company's never-ending tour. Framing every late night trip as a road movie, the show was one of the service's stronger original offerings, but never had an episode as captivating as the one police witnessed in a far more protected time nearly three decades earlier.
It was in 1987 when Jim Duggan and The Iron Sheik were pulled over in a routine traffic stop that started badly and got worse. 'Hacksaw' confessed that they had marijuana with them, but was unaware Sheik also had cocaine. For all these actual crimes were less than ideal for WWE, nothing compared to the prospect of the world knowing about these fierce on-screen rivals car sharing for work.
Both were let go, and while Sheik was gone for four more years, Duggan returned after several months to pick up pretty much right where he left off.
