The most transformative WWE event of the year is in the books - and thus commences the most important period of WWE's year.

No show switches things up like the Royal Rumble. Not even the Draft, which is never the hard reset WWE attempts to present it as, can compete with the signature January event. This is where WWE attempts to light the WrestleMania fuse by moving its most important pieces in place ahead of 'The Showcase of the Immortals,' where top title matches await the two winners. There's more to it than that, though. Pay attention to the people WWE spotlights in the Rumble through Diesel runs, iron man/woman honours, and key showdowns and/or eliminations, and you'll get a feel for who they intend to push ahead of and at the 'Show of Shows.'

As much as that is possible in a company where entire scripts are routinely torn up hours before bell time, at least.

Listed within are the men and women whose Royal Rumble 2021 performances should be a springboard to greater things. Whether or not they will be remains to be seen, but they deserve it. It's time for them to soar...

10. Rhea Ripley

A popular pick amongst WWE fans ahead of the event, 'The Nightmare' ended up finishing second in the women's Royal Rumble, losing out to Bianca Belair.

She entered a tremendous performance.

Joining the match at number 14, Ripley scored more eliminations than anyone else in the contest, with Charlotte Flair (in collaboration with Belair), Alexa Bliss, and Toni Storm amongst her seven scalps. She controlled the squared circle for long periods and it was clear from the moment she entered that highlighting her was going to be a priority, with the focus lasting all the way until the very end. Yes, it was Bianca's night, but Rhea came off as strong as she has since Survivor Series 2019 weekend, when she felt like the most vital women's wrestler in WWE.

A feud with Bliss looks likely after Ripley disrupted Alexa mid-transformation, saving an excellent women's Rumble from Fiendish trickery. If that happens, let's hope WWE keep the shenanigans to a minimum: Ripley is too good and too bad*ss to get caught up in cheap parlour tricks.

Regardless, she has to surge wherever she lands. 'The Nightmare' is on fire.
