1. Nigel McGuinness
Standing proud as the very definition of a professional wrestler who had his dreams shattered and lived to tell the tale, Nigel McGuinness was on the very cusp of signing for WWE in 2009, only to see his body and health get firmly in the way. Injuries were the sole reason for McGuinness never living out his fantasy of working for Vince McMahon, and he had to settle for TNA instead. In reality, that wasn't the worst scenario in the world, the man still got to work with the likes of Kurt Angle and produce special matches, but then he contracted Hepatitis, something which must have utterly broken him when he found out. Walking away from the industry he loved - not to mention one he had given so much to, physically - McGuinness retired from active in-ring competition following a short tour of the UK, and has only really been seen in ROH ever since. A world-class performer, the Englishman produced a documentary, 'The Last Of McGuinness' which gave further insight into his condition and the end of his in-ring career. Footage of the man breaking down into tears is particularly harrowing to watch, as are clips of him discussing how difficult it is to watch good friends like Daniel Bryan go on to make it at the top level, whilst he sits picking up the pieces of his dreams.
