10 Wrestlers Who Got Injured At The Worst Possible Time

5. Sami Zayn

Independent standout El Generico may have lost his mask when he joined WWE, but his reputation as one of the best workers in the world only grew. As Sami Zayn, he immediately began feuding with former Ring of Honor opponent Cesaro, and the two had a series of matches that many considered among 2013's best. Cesaro ended up winning the war, but Zayn became a super-popular underdog, and with the addition of NXT to the WWE Network, fans all over the world were treated to his matches and genuine likability on a regular basis. In December of 2014, Zayn captured the NXT Championship from Adrian Neville in an excellent, emotional bout. Zayn would lose the title only two months later, but big things were on the horizon for him - on May 4, he answered John Cena's U.S. Title open challenge on Raw, taking the champ to the limit after an introduction from Bret Hart. It was an amazing Raw debut - or it would have been, if Zayn hadn't been injured. In a freak accident, the former NXT Champion hurt his shoulder while throwing his arm up in a pre-match celebration. Zayn is expected to return to action at the end of this year or the beginning of the next. While he should make a full recovery, this list shows that his spot is anything but guaranteed.
