10 Wrestlers Who Guided Other Wrestlers To Great Performances
3. Shawn Michaels Vs. Sycho Sid (WWE Survivor Series 1996)
First things first, there'll be no bad words said here about Sid Justice, Sid Vicious, Sycho Sid or however you know him. The big man from West Memphis had a great look that stood out at a time full of the things, he had the best powerbomb of them all, he was capable of giving legitimately incredible promos (the empty arena one in San Antonio before this match is the best example) and he was intensity personified. Sure, he wasn't Dean Malenko between the ropes, but that shouldn't mask the rest of his glittering characteristics.
That Dean Malenko comment was an understatement, by the way. In a world of stiffs Sid was the stiffest, a giant in the ring with all the dexterity and grace of, well, a near 7-foot tall dude from West Memphis. How did Shawn Michaels pull a legitimate four-star match out of him at the 1996 Survivor Series?
By being Shawn f*cking Michaels, that's how.
Forget the convoluted finish with Jose Lothario (a truly underrated pro wrestling name) and a camera-created heart attack, and focus on the 20 minutes that preceded a vicious powerbomb and Sid's first WWE Championship. The Heartbreak Kid made Sid look every inch the monster that he was, flying around like a ragdoll in order to prove that the big man really was the master and ruler of the world.
Sid was awesome, but he was never more awesome than when he was being carried by Shawn Michaels.
