10 Wrestlers Who Had Electric Chemistry (But WWE Did Nothing With It)
8. Rey Mysterio And Shawn Michaels
It’s shocking fans only got to witness Rey Mysterio and Shawn Michaels battle it out in only two TV matches. The first time they locked-up it wasn’t exactly like it was planned far in advance either. When Eddie Guerrero tragically passed away in November 2005, WWE held tribute shows to him on Raw and SmackDown. The highlight of both shows easily being Eddie’s good friend Rey Mysterio wrestling HBK for the first time in their illustrious careers.
They tore it up in a 15 minute thriller, which wasn’t hard to predict would happen given they’re two of the best performers of all time. The match meant a lot to them both, with Rey and Eddie being so close and Shawn and Eddie having some wonderful talks about their faith in the last years of Eddie’s life, given they were both born-again Christians who had battled demons and addictions in their personal lives. Rey hit the 619 for the win and Shawn sold it better than anyone ever had before, making it look like he had been hit by a train when Rey connected.
Rey and Shawn worked so fluidly together. They wrestled on SmackDown in 2010 too, just before Shawn retired. Many agreed this could and should have been a spotlight match at WrestleMania at one time.
