10 Wrestlers Who Had Their Trigger Pulled Way Too Late
2. CM Punk
CM Punk beating John Cena for the WWE Championship in his hometown of Chicago is one of the best booking decisions WWE have ever made.
Punk was hotter than the sun in 2011 and Cena was absolutely despised by the hardcore crowd. These were very exciting times.
However, those exciting times lasted about a month.
Despite defeating Cena again at SummerSlam to become the undisputed champion, Punk would lose the belt to Alberto Del Rio moments later after interference from Kevin Nash. Yes, you did read that correctly. Kevin Nash was involved in a main event angle in 2011.
Punk then spent the next few months fighting Triple H, teaming with Triple H, getting pinned in championship matches, before finally getting the title back at Survivor Series. This was the start of his mammoth 434 day reign.
The Summer of Punk got off to a great start, but it got itself in such a muddle. When Punk eventually got the title back, he had lost a lot of the momentum he had built before he first won the belt. He managed to get it back, but that's because he's CM Punk.
If this push was an ice cream bar, it would have melted long before WWE decided to eat it.
