10 Wrestlers Who HATED Losing

8. Bruiser Brody

Bruiser Brody was a maverick: an ornery figure who operated on his own wavelength for a not dishonourable reason.

He loathed pro wrestling promoters, and wished to preserve his aura at their literal expense. Brody pitched himself as the most unhinged, authentic wrestling wild man; he threw a heavy chain around his head indiscriminately, in a great, terrifying visual that also symbolised his business mentality: you weren't f*cked, so long as you got out his way. His aura was so authentic, and his act so revered, that Brody had the leverage to preserve it by refusing to lay down for the vast majority of the time. Brody's greatest strategic win over the promoter was thus: a giant, hard man lunatic shouldn't lose, but they needed that giant, hard man lunatic because he was such a draw. Brody refused to show ass for Antonio Inoki, even; several of their encounters ended in a no-contest, a politicised Brody trope that nonetheless reinforced his character.

Brody was a brawler.

His matches didn't end because they rarely resembled matches; they were violent bar fights that happened to take place in front of enraptured, capacity crowds.
