10 Wrestlers Who Left Promotions With Nuclear Heat
4. Sexy Star
Sexy Star was a gifted athlete who was given the opportunity to reach new heights for a woman in the wrestling industry. In holding the Lucha Underground Championship, she became the first woman to hold a World Heavyweight Championship in a major wrestling promotion. It was in AAA where Sexy Star’s heat turned into industry-wide outrage.
At Triplemanía XXV, Star defended the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship against Ayako Hamada, Lady Shani, and Rosemary in a four-way match. The match was originally declared a successful title defence for Star, though, it later came to light that she had deliberately tried to injure Rosemary with an armbar.
The wrestling world quickly condemned her actions, and she was stripped of her championship and was blacklisted by several promotions. Sexy Star attempted to brush it off as a work, but Rosemary, once composed, exposed this as a lie.
Rosemary received support, and Sexy Star condemnation, from a wide array of industry figures such as Paige, Gail Kim, and Road Dogg. Most incriminatory perhaps was Cody’s tweet:
“Sexy Star will never set foot in one of my locker rooms. I hope others follow suit.”
