10 Wrestlers Who Made Their WWE Debut In Marquee Matches
2. Cain Velasquez - Crown Jewel 2019
Crown Jewel 2019 was a busy event, hosting the debuts of both Tyson Fury and Cain Velasquez. WWE really were pulling out all the stops for this show.
Despite his credentials this debut was not the roaring success WWE were looking for with Velasquez. Like almost everything else on this PPV, the match quality on display was mundane and the booking felt lacklustre.
It is common to see Lesnar beat performers with ease, but his best work comes when this façade is peeled back. The build-up to this match felt as though it was heading in this direction, with the storyline focused on Lesnar's crushing defeat at the hands of his opponent in their UFC contest.
Seeing The Beast genuinely need to fight to prove himself could have been compelling but ultimately the match felt like a standard Lesnar bout with some surprisingly weak looking offence from both parties.
Velasquez was never going to be a full-time WWE star. But it still would have been a good idea to make him feel like a dangerous threat. WWE could have taken fans for a ride here and genuinely convinced them something shocking was coming. But ultimately - excluding the advertisement that went into it - they didn't even seem to put any effort into making this debut special.
