10 Wrestlers Who Managed To Get Themselves Out Of Terrible Ideas
3. John Cena
In 2007, John Cena made a few offhand comments in an interview where he questioned The Rock's passion for wrestling. When Rock returned to WWE in 2011, those statements ended up forming the basis of a feud between the two men - one which would ultimately lead to the most successful wrestling Pay-Per-View event of all time.
Originally, though, the feud between the two men was supposed to look very different. The Rock was meant to cut his signature promos on Cena, but Cena was to just take it in stride, not responding to "The People's Champion."
As to why anyone thought that was a good idea is open for debate, but Cena complained about it. In his estimation, both he and The Rock were known for their promos, and fans wanted to see them both give each other everything they had. As Cena described it, it was like LeBron James playing against Michael Jordan, and nothing short of each man's best would do.
Finally, the company's officials acquiesced, and Cena and Rock tore into one another.
