10 Wrestlers Who Modelled Their Whole Style On Other Wrestlers
2. Buddy Murphy - Kenny Omega
To quote my far more learned colleague Michael Sidgwick; "Buddy Murphy is so Kenny Omega, I'm surprised he doesn't do the bang pose whenever he hits a move".
Given the two are currently existing in the same era of pro-wrestling and could, conceivably, work each other someday, Murphy has come in for some criticism for bringing Omega's smash-mouth style (and trademark hitting you in the face with his knees while his curly locks gently flap in the breeze vibe) to WWE. "When you can't sign Kenny Omega" Reddit gleefully declared, "just build your own version instead".
But elements of Omega's style bleeding through into younger wrestlers (granted they're only a few years apart in age but Murphy's over a decade behind him in experience on a big stage) is to be expected. Murphy is a smart, worldly student of the sport, and as he continues to hone his craft in WWE he's well within his rights to incorporate aspects of the industry's best.
Don't get me wrong, directly recreating the springboard to V-Trigger Omega/Fenix spot mere weeks after it happened wasn't a great look, but it did look great.
