10 Wrestlers Who Probably Had A Death Wish

3. Mae Young

This list is entirely inhabited by professional wrestlers taking risks and crazy bumps in the prime of their career, or in a time period not a million miles from what would be considered their peak. Mae Young? Well, the majority of her insane death-defying bumps came during the Attitude Era, when she was well into her eighth decade.

You can't take such bumps without a death wish, surely? The Dudley Boyz were particularly fierce on poor old Mae Young, putting her through tables and powerbombing her off the side of the stage. Mae Young was 77 years-old when Bubba ploughed her off the stage, and I don't think I can truly fathom how insane that is.

They say that as you get older you become less afraid of the inevitable. Mae Young embodied this sentiment more than perhaps any other.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
