10 Wrestlers Who Saved World Championships
1. Roman Reigns - Universal Championship
WWE's modern ace Roman Reigns never got to have a truly lengthy world title reign. A Wellness Policy violation, a Money in the Bank cash in and the return of his leukemia have been some of the things that have prevented Roman from cementing himself as the top star in the wrestling industry. Even this year, his planned victory over Goldberg at WrestleMania 36 was scrapped because of the pandemic.
But then he came back to the ring at SummerSlam 2020, unleashing every emotion that he's built up over the years. Channelling all the unfair hatred he's received from fans for years, the anger over countless missed opportunities and cruel circumstances and his need to be on top again, Roman reclaimed his Universal Championship and became an antagonist in the process.
He changed his look and attitude, reinvigorating his character with slower crueler delivery on the microphone and sadistic in ring work. His feud with cousin Jey Uso is the WWE narrative of the year, with his brutalisation of Uso at Clash of Champions being a masterpiece of emotional storytelling. Roman has not only cemented himself as the Tribal Chief, but has finally extinguished the stench off of the Universal Championship.
