R-Truth and Damian Priest beat JC Mateo and Tama Tonga to become brand new tag champs on the latest episode of SmackDown. The bout was a continuation of the 'odd couple' dynamic the pair have been working since they were involved with Judgment Day over on Raw, and Friday's match was used as a vehicle to persist with the ongoing feud between MFTs and The Wyatt Sicks.

Post-match, Solo Sikoa demanded answers from his group, but Tama told him that he was beginning to sound a little too much like Roman Reigns towards the end of The Bloodline days. That didn't sit well with Sikoa. He went to reply, then the warring Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu (who had been having a dust up all night) burst in to brawl.

It was actually Sikoa and Tonga who beat Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy on the 23 January edition of SmackDown to bag the belts in the first place, but Solo gave up his spot to Mateo this past Friday. That'll surely come up in the narrative going forwards.

This marks Truth's third run as a tag champ in WWE. Previously, he held doubles gold with Kofi Kingston and The Miz. Meanwhile, Priest just won his fifth set of tag titles. He'd won all of the others with ex-Judgment Day partner Finn Bálor.

Critically, the Truth and Priest combo must be viewed as a reprieve for the struggling SmackDown tag ranks. Hopes are high that they'll be able to mix comedy with good matches against everyone else in the division.
