With Lucharsaurus apparently under the control of Christian Cage, Jungle Boy might need to move past the loss of the tag championship belts and reassert himself in the singles ranks. He might not be exactly have earned the shot but AEW have previous with throwing out a young talent for a title shot on TV.
Dante Martin got a chance against Hangman Page, for example. It’s makes sense for Tony Khan to book these one off TV defences against young guys. The young upstart gets to look good against a top guy but there’s no shame in losing to a veteran and recognised top talent. The challenger loses nothing in defeat and potentially leaves with their stature enhanced. The title holder looks like a fighting champion, with a solid defence on their record.
Moxley works perfectly for this dynamic too. He’s got recent form wrestling the likes of Wheeler Yuta and, again, Martin and helping them look strong in defeat. Nobody needs an upset here but this could be a great away for the young pillar to get a bit of shine ahead of concluding his business with Christian. It just depends whether or not he bounces back from injury soon enough to make it happen.
