Or if Tony Khan doesn’t fancy strapping up Adam Cole, he could always give Adam Page another go. Having been left out of the No. 1 contenders battle royal a couple of weeks back, “The Hangman” has been explicit in his intentions to work his way back into title contention.
Technically, with Wardlow having ruled himself out, he’s already the top ranked contender at time of writing but he’s never been afraid to do the work. It would be great to see him string together a few point-proving wins and then call his shot.
If Hangman could take the belt from Moxley it would give AEW a second chance to get the Adam Page/CM Punk feud right. It should have been epic the first time but instead a good title match rescued an undercooked, confusing build. Why was Page so angry? What did he allude to but never say?
As WhatCulture’s own Michael Hamflett has pointed out, It would make sense if “the anxious millennial Cowboy’s” mistrust of Punk involves Punk’s friendship with FTR. The tag team are good guys now but it was their interference that helped sink Page to his lowest ebb. It would be good to see this made explicit on screen.
