10 Wrestlers Who Threw Their Championships Away
8. Matt Cardona - ECW World Television Championship
One title that Rhino cannot claim to have anymore is the ECW Television title. As previously stated, he was the last TV champ before ECW's closure, and it remained in his hands for 22 years until he came face-to-face with Matt Cardona.
The former Zack Ryder left WWE following the infamous 2020 'Black Wednesday' spring cleanings. Since then, he has created a legacy on the independent circuit as well as short stints in Impact, AEW, ROH, and accumulating up to nine titles at once by September 2023 giving himself the moniker of "belt collector".
In 2022, he looked to add a legacy title to that collection when he battled Rhino for the ECW Television Championship at Game Changer Wrestling's Most Notorious event. Cardona won the match and the belt, and would go on to hold the championship for 24 hours. Once again, this was a case of WWE owning the rights to the title. The change isn't officially recognised.
Therefore, the night after his victory, fearing WWE would hit him with a cease and desist, during a shoot promo in which he also blasted Paul Heyman, he threw the TV title into a bin held by his wife Chelsea Green, claiming "I didn't want to do it, but I had to do it".
