10 Wrestlers Who VANISHED When WCW Died

5. Mike Sanders

The incredibly named 'Above Average' Mike Sanders was notable for two things in WCW.

The first is his run as Cruiserweight Champion, but perhaps more impressive is that he seized the commissionership of the show for months simply by finding an empty office. Considering what we know about how WCW was run, there’s a chance this was a shoot.

Despite being one of the two dozen wrestlers to get their contracts picked up by WWF in the fallout of the WCW purchase, Sanders spent almost all his time in the company as part of their Heartland Wrestling Association developmental territory, becoming their head booker following a foot injury. The only match he worked for WWE was a dark match in June 2002, and he was released from his contract less than a month later. A run in TNA followed, until he worked his final match in Ring Of Glory in December 2005, before retiring his boots.

Following that match, Sanders began a successful career as a stand-up comedian, no doubt finding inspiration for his material in his ongoing friendship with Vince Russo.

After hearing that you are what you eat, Mik took a good hard look at his diet and realised he might just be a szechuan spare rib alongside prawn fried rice.
