Oh, what might've been x2.

'Intellectual Saviour Of The Unwashed Masses' Damien Sandow was tremendous fun as a snooty heel who dressed like he'd just finished smoking cigars whilst discussing the merits of the gold standard with his upper-class mates. WWE agreed that things were going well, and they decided to have Sandow win Money In The Bank by 2013.

People figured it was only a matter of time before Damien won a World Title, but he was booked to fail at the final hurdle by jobbing to John Cena approx three months later. There was no shame in losing to JC, but the circumstances and build made Sandow look like a total washout. He'd been losing matches aplenty before cashing in, basically.

Damien's career was in tatters, but he admirably made something of a stint impersonating The Miz before WWE released him in 2016. Dude went from being a can't miss hit heel in 2013 to out of the promotion within three years. Ouch!
