10 Wrestlers Whose Most Memorable Moment Was In Defeat
4. Steve Austin At WrestleMania 13
For WrestleMania 13, up-and-coming superstar 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin clashed with Bret 'The Hitman' Hart in a submission match, with UFC fighter Ken Shamrock as the special guest referee. The Hart/Austin rivalry is one of the best feuds in WWE history, because it was so logical and simple to understand: Austin wanted to beat the veteran Hart on the way to the top while Hart had to prove that he was still among the best in the world. One was a heel, one was a face. There you go. It's not rocket science but the execution was excellent. The 'Mania 13 match was one of the best matches in WWE history. It featured the kind of intense action that made Austin's matches so much fun, and Bret was game for it. Austin's blade job was incredible, resulting in him losing a lot of blood, yet he kept on fighting. It's that kind of fight made people believe in him, even after Hart won the match by making him pass out in the Sharpshooter. Austin lost the match in a clean way (even if he didn't give up), but those chants of "Austin, Austin, Austin" told the story of a guy who might have been a 'loser' on the night but was on his way to becoming something very special. Stone Cold won the majority of his matches during his big run between 1998-2002, but the visual of him bleeding like a stuck pig while Bret Hart punished him with his trademark submission hold is the one that a lot of fans remember the most.
