It's a dance as old as time. Man chases dream, man falls short, man wins ladder match that allows him instant access to dream. Man cashes in and achieves dream, but man gets injured by xenophobe. Man loses dream to man he stole dream from and has brain issue exploited in the process. Man tries to reclaim dream, but loses girlfriend in the process. Man forgets his dream, goes after buddy and ex-girlfriend instead.

This pretty much sums up the Dolph Ziggler story of 2012 and 2013. After coming close to the top of the mountain on a number of occasions Ziggler finally made it by cashing-in his Money in the Bank briefcase the night after WrestleMania 29. The man he cashed it in on was obviously due a rematch, and Alberto Del Rio got just that at Payback 2013.

Ziggler came into the match with a concussion only just in his rearview mirror and Del Rio ruthlessly exploited that, instigating a fantastic double turn in the process. Ziggler got a rematch the next month but AJ Lee cost him the title, at which point Ziggler seemingly forgot about the whole 'Del Rio kicked his head in' thing in order to squabble with AJ and Big E.

That rivalry had the chance to put Ziggler and Del Rio well truly on the map, but that business was unfortunately left on the table.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
