Paige made an explosive start to life in WWE after capturing the WWE Divas Championship from AJ Lee on her debut night. It was always going to be hard to top this, but things hit a steady decline shortly afterwards. Showing little character development throughout her reign, Paige was portrayed as a frail, vulnerable champion, and dropped the belt to Lee just over two months later.

She regained the Championship later that year, but Paige has been grossly mishandled throughout her tenure. From the increasingly awkward “best friends” angle with AJ to constantly flip-flopping between alignments at the drop of a hat, Paige has become a near-meaningless presence.

The Divas Revolution that was supposed to breath new life into the division should’ve done the same for Paige’s career: instead, she was completely shunted out of the spotlight by Charlotte, Sasha Banks, and Becky Lynch, and she hasn’t looked close to recovering since.

Paige hit a nadir last November, when, during her feud with Charlotte, she was made to make disparaging remarks about the incumbent Women’s Champion’s deceased brother Reid. Crude, crass, and absolutely tasteless, it was one of WWE creative's worst decisions in recent years, and a great disservice to two of their best female workers.

Her in-ring performances have regressed along with her dwindling spotlight, but Paige should be playing a starring role in the Women’s division. As it stands, she’s little more than fodder for anyone who needs a quick victory at the moment, and that’s a shame.
