Vignettes aired for a counterpoint to the darkness of The Undertaker in 2004. Mordecai was born, and everyone had high hopes he'd be able to grab some of 'Taker's magic and turn it into a lengthy run as WWE's latest supernatural force. Yeah, that didn't happen.

The gimmick lasted three short months before being scrapped.

Kevin Fertig, the dude behind the guise, has been very upfront and honest about his own failings during interviews since. He once opined that trying to copy The Undertaker's slow "zombie" style from 1990-1994 hurt him badly, because that wasn't what people wanted to see in the modern era.

Kev got another crack at it as part of the revived ECW brand in 2006. He became a vampire character named Kevin Thorn, but that ultimately flopped too. Most agree that Fertig had talent, but he just couldn't get any steam behind him in WWE, and so failed multiple times.
