7. Kevin Owens
I was actually in attendance when Kevin Owens won the Universal Title and it was awesome. The shock factor was perfect as no one in the audience expected anyone other than Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins to leave with the newly vacated gold that night. But as HHH turned on Seth Rollins to give Owens the victory the arena exploded.
KO followed this big win up with an excellent reign as Universal champion. It may have had a disappointing ending, but even still KO has been brilliant as a part of whichever brand he’s apart of. He’s had great feuds with the likes of Sami Zayn, Chris Jericho, AJ Styles, and even Shane McMahon.
Given how good, consistent, and popular with the audience he is it’s a wonder why he hasn’t won another world title already. What I think this boils down to is that it has always simply been someone else’s time. Looking back the only real time KO could’ve won the belt was against either Jinder Mahal or Randy Orton (instead of Mahal). Imagine his feud with Styles over the United States championship instead being for the WWE championship. It would’ve made an already good feud great, and would’ve saved us all from Jinder Mahal’s awful six month title reign. So everybody wins…
When the day comes that KO wins the big one again, you better believe that’s going to get a huge pop.
