10 Wrestlers WWE Should Build To Dethrone Roman Reigns
1. Tyler Bate
A few years ago you could've said, "Tyler Bate is the best young star in all of WWE bar none, and quite possibly all of professional wrestling," and not many would have disagreed with that statement. Still only 25, he has plenty of upside left.
The story here would be that of building Bate as just that, a young, technical wizard, whose size always makes the Big Strong Boi play the role of underdog. Allow Bate to have a Universal Title match against Roman in his Smackdown debut match. Bate loses the match, but pushes Roman to the absolute limit.
From there plant seeds in the audience's mind that Roman is worried about how young and good Bate is. Bate can then start moving up the Smackdown card, much to the ire of Reigns. Book Bate to earn and fail in title matches throughout the year (notably at Summerslam), and with each loss, WWE can show Bate getting better and better. The better Bate gets, the more Roman starts using backhanded tactics to keep the young British star in his place.
This builds the perfect storm for fan investment, a young hero rising, trials and tribulations for said hero, and a worthy final boss for the hero to overcome. Just imagine the possibilities if WWE were to run this story for the full year! In the final act, Tyler Bate faces off against The Tribal Chief in the main event of Wrestlemania 39. As the smoke clears, Tyler Bate survives interference from Paul Heyman and the Usos to finally become the new WWE Universal Champion. With Trent Seven and Pete Dunne in his corner, Tyler Bate truly and finally overcomes the odds on the grandest stage of them all. As they say, “And the rest is history.”
