10 Wrestlers You Didn’t Realise Wrestled For WWE In 1999

5. Rob Conway

Rob Conway was a standout performer for Ohio Valley Wrestling in the years before the organisation entered into a developmental agreement with WWE, but the budding relationship with the company opened the door for the future 'Con Man' to work a series of matches on the undercards of various television tapings and house shows.

Touted as a future main roster headliner alongside Nick Dinsmore (more on him later), Conway appeared in unseen encounters against D'Lo Brown, former and future Headbanger Glen Ruth, and most notably Kurt Angle as a proving ground for his hotly anticipated eventual WWE debut. A gifted in-ring mechanic, Conway was entrusted with enhancement duties against a raft of different performers on weekend shows as the company prepared to elevate him to the main roster, but fellow OVW graduates began sailing past him.

The 1999 match sadly represented false dawns for Conway, as he would continue to appear in endless tryouts over the next four years before finally getting his break on the main roster as a member of French heel group La Resistance.
