10 Wrestlers You Wouldn't Believe Competed In A G1 Climax
2. Buff Bagwell
Yes, the former 8-time WCW Rookie of the Year and Judy's favourite offspring Buff Bagwell disgraced a New Japan ring in 1997.
Part of the extended nWo family, Buff made sporadic trips to Japan in 1997 as part of the American contingent of the offshoot nWo Japan stable.
In a G1 dominated by nWo Japan members Masahiro Chono, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, The Great Muta and Scott Norton, Bagwell himself received a bye straight to the Quarterfinals, where he faced NJPW's new heavyweight hope, Kensuki Sasaki.
Sasaki disposed of Bagwell in eight minutes before going on to defeat fellow nWo members Norton and Tenzan to win the final.
Sasaki solidified himself as the new NJPW ace by winning the IWGP Tag-Team championship a week later and the IWGP Heavyweight Championship from Shinya Hashimoto at the end of the month.
Bagwell left nWo Japan in September to return to WCW where he would go on to feud with his mother Judy in tag-team competition.
