10 Wrestling Careers That Bombed After Their Biggest Match
4. The Nexus
Many of the individual members of The Nexus went on to (and continue to have) decent careers inside the squared circle, but the credibility of the faction was obliterated at SummerSlam 2010. Smashed into smithereens. Bombed beyond recognition.
The group had been a breath of fresh air in WWE in the summer of 2010, albeit a breath of fresh air on the heel side of the ledger. Seven new faces, new voices, new stars, a group thrust into a main event scene that was in desperate need of fresh blood. Wade Barrett was the leader and clear focal point, but there was more to The Nexus than six men doing the bidding of a tall bloke from Preston.
SummerSlam 2010 was the death of the group. The 7-on-7 main event should have ended with Barrett on top, with Nexus getting a strong win over a team made up of legends and top stars. Instead, John Cena practically no-sold a DDT on concrete and single-handedly picked up the win for his team, ramming all of the nails in the coffin of The Nexus and pouring lead over the lid.
