10 Wrestling Careers That Bombed After Their Biggest Match

3. King Mabel

Has there ever been a worse wrestler to receive a major push than Mabel? Outside of being absolutely huge, the guy had nothing going for him inside the ring. He was immobile, dangerous, unemotive and, well, wretched. The Great Khali is the only name that comes to mind as a potential equal, but even ol' Khali had an imposing nature to his presence. Poor old Mabel was just really, really wide.

So shame on anyone who has the temerity to say that Billy Gunn is the worst King of the Ring. The only answer to that conundrum is Mabel, anyone saying differently is a liar or a contrarian. Mabel won the prestigious tournament in 1995 and went on to headline SummerSlam against Diesel, with Big Sexy luckily coming out on top. That was about as good as it got for the fallen King, who was out of a job just six months later.

He kept returning to the WWE in years to come, having runs as Viscera and Big Daddy V, but it never got any better than that halcyon summer of 1995. Thank the lord on high for that.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
