10 Wrestling Details That Aren’t As Important As You Think

3. Heath Slater As A Referee

There was a lot on the line when Constable Corbin faced Braun Strowman in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match in 2018.

Taking place at the aptly-titled TLC Pay-Per-View, the match stated that, if Corbin won, he would become the full-time General Manager of Raw. If Strowman won, then Corbin would be stripped of all his powers.

An interesting wrinkle to this match was its referee. Heath Slater had been reduced to the role of referee by Corbin and was assigned to this match. The Constable thought he had Slater in his pocket, but the former 3MB member wasn't having any of it.

During the match, Slater took off his referee shirt and attacked Corbin, helping Strowman to pick up the win. Sounds like a good story, right? Well, it is, until you realise that Strowman had help from about half a dozen other people too.

Finn Balor. Apollo Crews. Kurt Angle. They all chipped in to take Corbin out, rendering Slater's involvement basically pointless.

The story of Slater as a referee could have been really interesting, but it got lost in the shuffle of a match that was hideously overbooked. This was one of Slater's last major contribution to WWE, before he was released in 2020.
