10 Wrestling Dream Matches That Could Realistically Happen In 2022
2. Katsuyori Shibata Vs. Kenta
Having Shibata (possibly) back inside a ring is yet another sign of how the current wrestling landscape just gets better and better. While it's true that his in-ring return is far from certain, fans know for a fact that he wants it, and thus, it seems to be inevitable. If it did happen in 2022, then NJPW would have the perfect chance to pay off the set-up they've done for this battle.
In 2019, Shibata infamously introduced the returning Kenta to NJPW and ended up being beaten and betrayed by the man. This led to fans' mouths watering at the thought of these brutal strikers facing off, and since then, it has been like a carrot dangling from a stick.
If 2022 is the year Shibata finally gets to wrestle again, then his sights should be set on Kenta, as not only do the two have a pre-existing narrative to pay off but they are perfectly matched as in-ring competitors.
Their showdown would be brutal, terrifying and magnificent. So, fans can only hope they get to see it come the new year.
