10 Wrestling Facts We Didn’t Know Last Week (Oct 19)
5. SummerSlam 1992 Didn't Do Good Enough Business For WWE's Liking
SummerSlam 1992 has always been held aloft as crucial evidence that WWE really should get their finger out and run another major pay-per-view on UK soil. The old Wembley Stadium was sold out to capacity, fans boomed their approval of The British Bulldog's main event win and the entire experience lined company coffers.
Or, did it? Triple H has looked back over the accounts, and he has another perspective.
In an interview with Express Sport, he peeled back the curtain ever-so-slightly to show that WWE don't view SummerSlam '92 as the rip-roaring success British fans do. His very words were that the event 'was not a massive success'. Ouch, that hurts to hear for anyone who has long-since believed WWE are foolish for not doing it again.
Whilst Triple H didn't go into detail on actual numbers, it seems the show didn't smash it like WWE would have liked. The most incredible thing there is that domestic business for the group was down at the time, and so an 80,000-strong draw at the gate should have been huge.
