This entry was almost titled, "Why Steve Austin Is A Crowd-Avoiding Super-Genius".

Amidst the height of his fame in the late-90s, 'Stone Cold' found it impossible to go anywhere in public without people recognising him. That made leaving arenas a chore for the guy, and it's why he came up with one of the most ingenious venue escape plans in history.

Austin told Sports Illustrated that he had the most trouble leaving Madison Square Garden. He watched as other wrestlers had windscreen wipers and wing mirrors ripped from their rental cars, so he concocted quite the scheme. Steve would leap into an ambulance backstage and leave the building in that.

Meanwhile, a WWF staffer would quietly drive his rental car from MSG's parking garage around 10-15 blocks down the street. They'd meet at a pre-agreed location, Austin would dive from his ambulance sanctuary and then he'd head off to the hotel crowd-free.
