3. RVD Feels Paul Heyman Is Only Booker Who Has Ever Understood Him
As mentioned during the introduction to this article, Rob Van Dam sees himself as a very unique performer. Certainly in World Wrestling Entertainment, RVD never truly felt he fit the mould of what Vince McMahon wanted from a top star. That's refreshingly honest, but Van Dam was still able to carve a very fruitful career. During his early career, it was Paul Heyman who perhaps aided Rob the most. For years, it was said that Heyman could really mask his wrestler's weaknesses, accentuating their strengths and pushing them to the forefront of their characters. In the case of RVD, that's very accurate, because he was able to grow in confidence quickly in the original ECW. That stood him in good stead later. In Van Dam's mind, nobody has ever understood him quite like Paul Heyman. The booker's grand plan was to hold off on putting the ECW Heavyweight Title on his prized asset until the time was perfect. Unfortunately, ECW would go out of business before then, but RVD went on to bigger and better things. He credits his assured nature to Heyman's ability to bring the best out in people.
