Traditionally, SummerSlam is one of WWE's biggest Pay-Per-Views of the year. First launching in 1988, the event is joined by the likes of the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania and Survivor Series as the marquee events on the calendar. This year, the show will be bumped up from 3 to 4 hours for the first time in history.

Due to be headlined by Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker, WWE officials are pulling out all the stops to make SummerSlam feel as big as possible. The night before the event, the company will even put on a special NXT show, 'NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn'. In addition, there will also be a unique Q&A session discussing the evolution of the NXT brand.

Excitement is building as SummerSlam draws closer, but it's unclear whether or not the 4-hour format for the Pay-Per-View will be an annual thing. Up until now, 4-hour shows have really been restricted to WrestleMania, but SummerSlam joining the party helps make things feel grander than they have been for years.
