10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (April 17)
6. Cain Velasquez Is Open To Pro Wrestling
On the flipside, someone who apparently would be interested in entering the world of pro wrestling is current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez. One of the top fighters in the world, the California native rather interestingly noted this week that he's aware he can't go on fighting forever, and would be open to pursuing a career in professional wrestling once he exits the octagon for good. This kind of statement represents a major shift in how MMA fighters have perceived pro wrestling over the past 5 years or so. Previously, many fighters quizzed about the industry laughed off suggestions that they could be doing anything other than genuine fighting in the near future, but there have been some who have entertained the idea of wrestling, such as Chael Sonnen. For the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion to come out and say he'd be open to exploring the pro wrestling world is big. Velasquez is renowned for his hard strikes and incredible endurance, enabling him to maintain a high-intensity style deep into any fight. Thick and muscular, perhaps he'd be perfect for the pro wrestling world. At 32 years of age, the man isn't getting any younger, and may only have a few good years left in him as a top fighter.
