4. AJ Styles Viewed TNA As 'Just Another Indie'

These days, AJ Styles seems content on the independent scene. Previously, he held a contract with TNA, meaning he couldn't appear for any other promotion without their permission. Making his debut right back at the start of the promotion's run in 2002, Styles quickly established himself as one of the breakout stars in the fledgling organisation. Piecing together amazing matches on a weekly basis, AJ became a huge part of the X Division, which was at one time TNA's crown jewel. Now, he wrestles mainly for New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring Of Honor, but there are rumours he will sign a WWE contract in 2016. If he does, it makes sense that he'd be posted to NXT, alongside his ex-peer, Samoa Joe. Speaking with Ring Rust Radio, Styles opened up about his thoughts on TNA. When he joined the company in 2002, he didn't think it would last. In fact, AJ viewed the promotion as just another independent promotion looking to fill gaps in the wake of WCW and ECW going out of business. Even after a few years in the company, he didn't see it as anything other than just another independent company.
