10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Dec 5)

9. PN News Was Warned Not To 'Outshine' Dustin Rhodes

Paul Neu caught on in World Championship Wrestling as the comedy-laden P.N News character. The rapping gimmick was popular with fans, who enjoyed the outlandish nature of the persona. People also liked the colourful wrestler's gusto when he appeared. News even had a feud against Steve Austin towards the end of his run. In 1992, he was unceremoniously dumped by WCW, something which confused him. Behind the scenes, News was warned by Ricky Morton not to outshine the "booker's kid", referring to Dustin Rhodes. At the time, Dusty Rhodes was booking WCW programming and house shows. During one, the fans had been really quiet for Dustin, but exploded into life when P.N News entered the scene. Telling the Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast about his conversation with Morton, News said he knew his days were numbered. Right there and then, he started being ousted from feuds and angles. By the end of the year, he was gone from the promotion. He focused on wrestling in Europe, mainly in Germany and Austria, and was never seen in WCW again.
