The local support for wrestlers like Wolfgang, Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate was almost overwhelming during WWE's recent United Kingdom Title tournament on the WWE Network. The then-ICW Champion, Wolfgang was eliminated by Bate at the Semi-Final stage - but he wouldn't even have got that far had his mother not encouraged him.

Revealing his story to The Sun this week, a thankful Wolfgang opened up to tell of his mother's intense illness; suffering from cancer and then a brain tumour, the Scottish woman pushed her son to continue chasing his dream of wrestling for WWE.

Stories like this really resonate with the wrestling fraternity, because Wolfgang's childlike passion for the industry comes across during these interviews.

It must have been hell for the Glaswegian to press on and brave face things to his peers and the fans when he was going through such personal strife, and it's a sign of Wolfgang's mental strength that he was finally able to bag a WWE contract.

Using his own mother as inspiration, the UK star was able to focus on the positives in his career rather than the negatives.
