Ironically, SummerSlam 1998 fell at a time when the WWF was as hot as ever. Subtitled 'Highway To Hell', the pay-per-view is memorable for a resplendent Madison Square Garden set, as well as an awesome Ladder Match for the WWF Intercontinental Title between Triple H and The Rock.

Immediately following that bout, both The Undertaker and Steve Austin knew they had a job on their hands. Their headline match had been billed as the marquee contest, the one match that 'Highway To Hell' branding revolved around. It was also for the WWF Heavyweight Title, then held by a mega-over Austin.

Stone Cold would win the match, but he didn't leave MSG with a beaming smile on his face. In fact, Austin left without much satisfaction at all, and the same could be said of The Undertaker.

Speaking on his own podcast recently, Austin said that neither he nor 'Taker were especially happy with the main event. The pair just didn't click on the night, and didn't give fans that endless stream of tension or drama that the event craved.

At the time, the WWF could have presented anything to fanfare, so it's interesting to know that Austin and Undertaker were hard on their own performances.
