When she wasn't watching elements of her gimmick be outlawed by management, Alexa was striving to come up with something unique in NXT. That led her to stumble upon the cheerleader gimmick she played during her first run. On the same 'Then & Now' episode, Bliss explained how it all came about.

It's really quite simple: she didn't know where wrestlers got their gear made.

That is not a joke. She'd been a cheerleader before in high school and at the University of Akron, and she still had some of her old outfits. So, Bliss dug out some of those costumes and decided to wear them on WWE TV. She never actually planned to be a cheerleader, she just thought the clothes sorta' looked like wrestling attire.

It was WWE that put two and two together; thinking Bliss had come up with some new character, they embraced it and turned her into a dancer. It was a total accident, one born from Alexa's lack of knowledge about where she could get ring gear made.
