On screen, the Elimination Chamber was credited to one Eric Bischoff. The then-Raw GM proudly discussed how the World Heavyweight Title would be on the line in this bold new match type at the 2002 Survivor Series, and he did so with a smile. Inside, Bischoff was doubtful it was even a good idea to begin with.

Via his 83 Weeks podcast, Bisch revealed how he stared up at the Chamber on the night and wondered to himself how WWE's production staff could possibly make the thing look good on TV. It was massive, dark and had thick black support beams dotted all over the place. To Eric, it was a flop waiting to happen.

Also, 'Easy E' wasn't fond of the pod format, rules or how it'd be laid out.

The Chamber has gone on to become one of WWE's best creations behind Hell In A Cell, Money In The Bank and other such gimmicks. It's still around today, and that's something that slightly surprises Bischoff. He obviously didn't think the concept had legs.
