10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Nov 6)
8. Greg Gagne Was Part Of Bringing Hulk Hogan To WCW
Over the years, wrestling fans have become privy to the sequence of events which led to Hulk Hogan joining World Championship Wrestling. Eric Bischoff and 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair have often been the ones credited for bringing 'Hulkamania' to WCW in 1994, but there's one party who has been left out in the cold in the story. Greg Gagne says he advised Bischoff that Hogan was attainable for the right price. Bischoff sought Gagne's advice, because he had worked with him in the American Wrestling Association, and therefore trusted his opinion. According to Greg, he felt shunned by WCW upon the downfall of the AWA, and wanted a piece of the action in the Hogan deal. Greg wanted a piece of Hulk's merchandise sales, as well as a portion of the revenue gained by his appearances on WCW Pay-Per-View events. Bischoff reportedly agreed to this, but then Gagne didn't get anything in the end. Even though he repeatedly asked for the agreement in writing, he never received it, and thus didn't have any proof of his involvement to bring Hogan in.
