During the introduction to this piece, it was said that Chris Jericho's heel character in 2016 is remarkably different to the one he played in 2008. Now, Jericho comes out shirtless, drawing jokes with his scarf and the fact he dresses like an eccentric rock star.

There's something about the aesthetic that works, just as there was in 2008 when Y2J began wearing plain suites and talking with a deliberate tone. Appearing on You're Welcome With Chael Sonnen, Jericho looked back on his run as a business-like villain almost a decade ago, revealing that it had an immense drain on him mentally.

Keeping in character always, Jericho even bad-mouthed kids during that particular run. Always being switched on was tiresome, paying off when the man garnered great heat for his feud against Shawn Michaels for much of the year.

Today, the heel he plays on WWE television is one he can switch on and off at will. Jericho has other interests outside of wrestling, allowing him to take a break from playing the bad guy. In 2008, he went all in.
