Despite being a live event stalwart for much of 2017, Buddy Murphy couldn't force his way into WWE's plans and (aside from a tag match that January) he barely appeared on NXT television. Things were not looking good before Murphy himself decided to take matters into his own hands and pitch a move to 205 Live.

WWE weren't interested.

Annoyed by the lack of direction, Buddy slimmed down to meet the Cruiserweight guidelines and give his employer no excuse; either they'd put him on 205, or he'd be wasted on NXT house shows. In an interview with news.com.au, Murphy told how this forced WWE's hand, and they started to view him in a different light.

Now in the best shape of his career, the former tag-team man has also started actively pitching more ideas to the writers. Credit to him for spotting an opportunity he could exploit to get himself some more TV time and move out of the career rut he was stuck in on NXT.
