10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week

8. Legion Of Clowns?

The Legion Of Doom, or The Road Warriors - whichever one you prefer - stand tall as one of the most fondly-remembered tag-teams in wrestling folklore. Bad-ass, menacing and tough-as-nails could all be words and phrases used to describe Hawk and Animal, who blazed a trail through every company they found themselves working for. One thing that's never really mentioned, is the creativity of the duo, specifically (for the purpose of this entry) the imagination of Hawk. Many eye-opening topics were discussed during a recent Q&A session with Bruce Prichard and Eric Bischoff, but the fact that it was Hawk who first envisioned the character of Doink The Clown is one of the most surprising. Formerly working as a manager and producer for WWE, Prichard claims it was the LOD member who brought the Doink gimmick to Vince McMahon's attention, something which he certainly hasn't been given credit for over the years. Prichard didn't say whether or not Hawk created the gimmick as one he'd like to play, although that seems unlikely, given the success the man was experiencing as part of The Roadwarriors unit. Doink The Clown was a tremendously ominous heel upon his debut, initially being played by Matt Osbourne. It was only when the WWF chose to turn the character babyface that things started to go sour.
